Learning Resource Centre
Introduction
The Learning Support Centre consists of a group of 41 learners aged from 11-16 years who have a variety of learning needs and are at stage 5 of the Code of Practice. The pupils come from a wide catchment area and have special transport arrangements via taxis and minibuses. We have four bases in the school with four full time special needs teachers and a combination of 5 permanent/temporary Learning Resource staff, 7 Support Assistant (permanent and part-time) and 41 pupils across five year groups.

Mission Statement for Learning Resource Centre
The Learning Resource Centre is essentially a department within the mainstream school which enhances the range of provision available to meet pupils with special educational needs. It does not exist as an island but as an integral part of the school community.
Our Mission is to strive to meet the educational, social and vocational needs of children who have learning challenges within the embracing environment of Our Lady of Lourdes. We aim to provide the opportunity for each individual to grow and develop to his/her fullest potential and be prepared for as independent an adult life as possible
It is the responsibility of the Leadership Team and Senior Staff to ensure that the quality of education and the opportunities for inclusion for the pupils with SEN throughout the whole school, including the LRC, are of the highest quality thus enabling them to develop as individuals and as citizens of tomorrow.
Vision and Philosophy
Our vision is of a special needs facility which is supportively and flexibly integrated in to the life of Our Lady of Lourdes. Inclusion is our cornerstone philosophy.
Life Skills based curriculum
The curriculum consists of:
- Functional literacy,

- Social skills and interaction,
- Basic life skills
- Awareness of the world of work

There also exists a pro-active programme of inclusion at recreation times via supervised activities in the Year Group “Chill” room and reward trips. |
